This witty, slow-burn rom-com is the “ideal beach read.” —Elle
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it’s now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They’ll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each otherโs out, and theyโll both go on to find the love of their lives. Itโs a bonkers ideaโฆ and it just might work.
Emma hadn’t planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.
It’s supposed to be a quick fling, just for the summer. But when Emma’s toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they’re suddenly navigating a lot more than they expected–including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?

JUST FOR THE SUMMER
BOOK REVIEW

Justin and Emma lead very different lives but have one thing in common – every relationship that ends in a heartbreak for them leads to a happily ever after for their exes. Finding each other means they might have a chance to break the curse if they were to date each other for the summer and hopefully move on to their own happily ever after.
What starts as a casual fling grows into a friendship that may change their lives as they know them. Vivid writing, complex characters with rich back stories, and thought-provoking themes make Just for the Summer more than a quick summer read. Abby Jimenez writes a sweet romance yes, but she also explores the lasting effect childhood trauma, toxic relationships, narcissism, and family secrets have on a person.
Beyond the themes of love, friendship, new beginnings, and blended families, which, of course, I loved, what I found the heart of this story to be was personal growth. Overcoming years of trauma, accepting reality as it is not as you’d like it to be, and finding the strength to stop running is easier said than done but necessary in order to find a life beyond the guilt, the blame, and anger. One where, for the first time ever, you give yourself permission to be happy.
